A mould is taken off the tooth and sent to the lab, where a technician will make the onlay, which is then cemented on at the next visit. Onlays can be made of various materials, some white and some metal.
They require less tooth preparation and hence less drilling than a crown, so are often preferred if the situation allows it. Every case is different and we will discuss all options with you.
